Orthodox Conversion to Judaism
-
There are only 2 ways that a person is considered Jewish. Either the Mother was Jewish from birth, or they are converted according to Jewish law.

-
Converting to Judaism is something that a person should consider very carefully, since once a person has converted, he or she will be forever Jewish. The principle requirement to convert should be because one is sincere in their desire to fulfill all the commandments of the Torah.

-
In order to convert to Judaism, one must first learn all basic knowledge of the Torah, how to pray, how to keep the Shabbat and all the holidays, and how to keep Kosher, among other things.

-
For those accepted into the program, Rabbi Ohana offers a class that will teach people all the basic requirements before they can convert. In addition, all potential converts should be affiliated with an Orthodox Synagogue, and live within walking distance of the Synagogue.

-
The conversion process will need to involve your spouse or fiance, and any live-at-home children.

-
The timeline for converting will depend on a person's background and individual circumstances.
